Prayer For Healing Following the Attack on 9/11
For those impacted by the terrible events of 9/11, pray for healing. Join UCC General Minister and President John Dorhauer for a reflection and prayer during this week’s webinar worship service.
Single young adults interviewed after 9/11 reported higher religious salience, spiritual salience, and frequency of prayer than those who were interviewed prior to 9/11. But these effects were largely driven by personal resources.
1. Prayer for Comfort
When the devastating effects of loss and grief come upon us, it is important to turn to our heavenly Father for comfort. On this page, we have gathered several resources to offer you and those around you comfort during difficult times, including prayers for those who are grieving, bible verses about finding comfort in hard times, and helpful tips on how to manage anxiety and panic attacks.
Lord, bless those who have suffered from the attacks on September 11, 2001. Comfort them in the deepest parts of their souls, and let your love surround them. Heal their wounds, and restore to them their faith, hope, and peace. Bless those who have lost their lives, homes, jobs, and regular rhythms and routines. Help them find strength in their communities and in your church. Restore their families to unity.
2. Prayer for Healing
The attack on 9/11 was a horrible tragedy that took many lives, but it also showed many acts of kindness and heroism. Many people are still healing from the aftermath of this event. These prayers for healing can help them find strength and comfort.
A healing prayer is a simple way to ask God for physical or emotional healing. It may be said for yourself or someone you love. It can be hard to know what to say when someone is going through a difficult time, but these healing prayers are a good place to start.
There is a popular saying that “there are no atheists in foxholes” because people in times of struggle seek spiritual strength and hope. A healing prayer is a great way to show someone that they are not alone and that you care about them. You can even print out these healing prayers and keep them in your pocket to read when you are struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic or any other hardship.
3. Prayer for Peace
The attacks on September 11, 2001, left America and the world shaken. Despite the fact that it has been more than two decades since this terrible day, many people are still trying to heal from the tragedy. The loss of loved ones, destruction, and chaos that accompanied the attack caused pain that will never go away for many.
Prayer for Peace
During his visit to the United States in 2015, Pope Francis visited Ground Zero where he prayed for the victims and the healing of our nation. He also prayed for world leaders to have wisdom and discernment not only as they work to resolve the lasting effects of the 9/11 attacks but as they strive to alleviate terror of all sorts, from genocide to hunger to bombings.
Lord, help those who are struggling to find peace in this troubled time. Grant them Your steadfast love. Bind their wounds with Your heavenly love and give them strength to continue on in hope.
4. Prayer for Grief
The attack on September 11, 2001, by al-Qaeda terrorists, was a tragedy that affected many people in the United States. Almost 3000 people lost their lives in the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, in the Pentagon in Washington DC, and in the plane that crashed in rural Pennsylvania.
Grief became cemented in the hearts of those who lost loved ones on 9/11. Even as the anniversary of the attacks approaches, those memories still hurt.
Lord, bring solace to those who mourn and remember. Help them to know they are not alone and that You are always with them. Heal their hearts, Lord, so they can move past this sorrow and begin to live again. Give them Your enduring love that is stronger than death, and a peace that will last for all eternity. Amen.
